How to use the Actors

fairfetch’s Actors run on Apify. Start one from its Apify Store page, call it from your code or connect it to other tools. The Actors in our MCP listing, and our MCP server, also work as tools for AI agents.

On Apify Store, without code

  1. Open an Actor from the list of Actors and sign in to Apify. Runs are charged to your Apify account; Apify’s Free plan includes $5 of prepaid usage each month (Apify pricing).
  2. Fill in the input. Every field has a description, and the example input is a small run.
  3. Cap the cost if you like. The run options take a maximum cost per run, which caps what one run can charge.
  4. Start the run. Results appear in the Output tab as they arrive. Export them as JSON, CSV, Excel and other formats.

Each Actor’s page lists every fee with cost examples. The data Actors are paid per result plus a small start fee per run (a few add a per-lookup or per-run fee), with no extra usage fees; the MCP server also bills Apify platform usage (see below).

From your code: the Apify API

Create an API token in Apify Console under Settings → API & Integrations. Keep it secret: send it in the Authorization header, never in a page others can see. The examples read it from the environment variable APIFY_TOKEN and run Google Trends Scraper with its example input from Apify Store.

One request: run and get the results

Run synchronously starts the Actor and answers with its results. The maxTotalChargeUsd parameter caps what the run can charge. This call waits up to 300 seconds; for longer runs, start a run and read its dataset when it has finished.

curl
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/fairfetch~google-trends-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?maxTotalChargeUsd=0.50" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"searchTerms":["coffee"],"geo":"US","timeRange":"today 12-m","includeRelatedTopics":false,"proxyConfiguration":{"useApifyProxy":true,"apifyProxyGroups":["RESIDENTIAL"]}}'

Apify’s client libraries

The JavaScript and Python clients start a run, wait for it to finish and read its dataset (npm install apify-client, pip install "apify-client>=3").

JavaScript (Node.js)
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';

const client = new ApifyClient({ token: process.env.APIFY_TOKEN });
const run = await client.actor('fairfetch/google-trends-scraper').call({
  "searchTerms": [
    "coffee"
  ],
  "geo": "US",
  "timeRange": "today 12-m",
  "includeRelatedTopics": false,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": true,
    "apifyProxyGroups": [
      "RESIDENTIAL"
    ]
  }
});
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
console.log(items);
Python
import json
import os

from apify_client import ApifyClient

client = ApifyClient(os.environ["APIFY_TOKEN"])
run_input = json.loads(r'''{
  "searchTerms": [
    "coffee"
  ],
  "geo": "US",
  "timeRange": "today 12-m",
  "includeRelatedTopics": false,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": true,
    "apifyProxyGroups": [
      "RESIDENTIAL"
    ]
  }
}''')
run = client.actor("fairfetch/google-trends-scraper").call(run_input=run_input)
for item in client.dataset(run.default_dataset_id).iterate_items():
    print(item)

Schedules and integrations

  • Schedules run an Actor, or a saved task with your input, every hour, day or week. Several Actors can return only what changed since their last run, such as new jobs, new articles or price changes; their pages explain how.
  • Webhooks call your own address when a run succeeds or fails.
  • Integrations start Actors from n8n, Make and Zapier workflows, and send their results to other tools and storage.

MCP servers for AI agents

Apify’s MCP server gives MCP clients such as Claude, Cursor and VS Code these fairfetch tools. The first connection opens an Apify sign-in (OAuth) in your browser. Clients without a browser can send the header Authorization: Bearer <your Apify API token> instead. In VS Code, run MCP: Add Server and choose HTTP; in the Claude apps, use Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.

Before you give an agent these tools, set a usage limit for your Apify account (Apify Console → Billing → Limits). An agent that keeps calling tools keeps being charged, and the account limit is what stops it.

Web data tools for AI agents, priced per result

10 Actors as tools, listed in the official MCP Registry as io.github.fairfetch-data/fairfetch-mcp:

Each tool call is a run of that Actor, charged at its prices and start fee.

Keyword Research MCP

MCP server for AI agents and SEO work: Google, YouTube & Bing autocomplete, keyword search volume, CPC, difficulty & intent, keyword ideas, Google Trends and trending searches. Its tools, their arguments and prices are on its Apify page. It is charged per call. Plus Apify platform usage while the server runs. It starts when your MCP client connects (most clients connect when they open or start a chat, even if no tool is used) and stops 5 minutes after the last request. Remove or disable it in clients where you don’t use it.

Questions and problems

Every Actor’s page on Apify Store has an Issues tab: questions and bug reports there are answered in public, so they help other users too. For anything else, ask for a new Actor or field, or write privately, use the contact page or e-mail hello@fairfetchdata.com.
